I work with Kim Hide in leading the Student Services Team which is responsible for student care, guidance and support. Central to my role is to support and promote students’ achievement and to help them achieve their potential as learners by focussing on the whole child. In order to do this I liaise with a number of external agencies to ensure that students and families have access to the appropriate extended services and receive the support and guidance they need in managing a range of complex issues. In addition, I work closely with the Learning Support department within school to ensure appropriate provision for students with additional needs, both across the curriculum and through targeted intervention and with Heads of Year to monitor student progress in all aspects of school life
My main area of responsibility is to monitor academic standards and develop approaches to raise student achievement.
Within this brief I lead and manage the Data Tracking, Reporting and Assessment within the school. I am also responsible for aspects of Teaching & Learning, Trips and Visits and along with Mike Adams (Assistant Headteacher), I lead the development of the school curriculum.
My role as a member of the Senior Leadership Team includes a broad range of non-teaching management activities, all of which contribute to ensuring the school achieves its aims and goals.
These include the management of the administrative, personnel and financial services within the school, responsibility for health and safety and fire safety, and I am Clerk to the Governing Board. I also ensure that all absent members of teaching staff are replaced on a day to day basis.
As Assistant Head teacher with responsibility for Curriculum and Timetable, I work closely with Stewart Roderick focusing on Curriculum Design and writing the school timetable.
In addition to this, a key role is my focus on ICT Strategy as have responsibility for ICT developments across the school, including the Website, Student Zone, Edmodo, Parent Portal, and Planner Live websites. In conjunction with the Andover Consortium I am also involved with the development of the 14-19 KS4 curriculum and arrangements for Work Experience and Work related Learning.
As Assistant Head teacher, part of my role is to help the school meet it’s key priorities as identified in the school improvement plan. I am part of the Leadership, Operation and Staffing team, where my key areas of responsibility are leading the professional development of all staff, managing the organisation of performance management for teaching staff and coordinating the school teacher training programmes for PGCE and GTP trainees. I am the subject line leader for Humanities and Art and the SLT link for year 11. I also teach in the English department.
I work with Lisa Ellis as part of the Student Support Services Team who are responsible for student care, guidance and support. I liaise with the local primary schools to smooth the transition process to secondary education. I work closely with the Heads of Year to ensure that the day to day operational management of students is co-ordinated, therefore student behaviour and conduct is the key focus of my day. It is our aim to ensure that all students at John Hanson feel valued, work hard and participate in as many activities as possible. Sometimes extra support is required for some of our students, and I work with the Education Inclusion Service to ensure they receive the guidance needed to enjoy the success all of our students deserve.
