U16 Girls Football
The U16 Girls football teams impressive cup run finally came to an end today (22/02/2012) vs Noadswood School (nr Southampton).
John Hanson lost the game 2 - 0, despite dominating possession and creating the better chances. Noadswood scored once in each half, the first goal as a result of a defensive error from a hopeful long ball up field, and the second from a well struck free kick.
Ellie May, Kyla Tobin and Charlotte Booth all had several shots saved by the Noadswood goalkeeper who was undoubtedly the oppositions best player on the day. Katie Thompson derserves a special mention for stepping in at the last minute so that John Hanson could field a full team. She did very well on her debut in the U16's.
All the girls were tireless in their efforts to get back into the game and derserve great credit for having reached the semi finals. Their behaviour and conduct in both victory and defeat has been exemplarly throughout this cup run. Congratulations!

Our newsletter Contact is available for download here. So as to minimise printing and postal costs, this publication will no longer be sent out with the students’ termly reports. If you would like a printed version, but have no means of printing it at home, there will be copies available through the public and students’ receptions, should parents/carers or students wish to collect a copy.

Headteacher’s Award
Congratulations to Emily Hackman, Adam Large and Lucas Robin for their tremendous achievement in the recent Youth Speaks Competition organised by the Rotary Club of Andover. Adam was awarded the trophy for being the Best Speaker in the Intermediate category and Emily won the award for the Best Proposer of the Vote of thanks. All of the students worked exceptionally hard preparing for the event and gave very polished performances.
Prospective Students
We are now booking tours for Year 5 and 6 students and for those students who are transferring from other schools out of area. Please contact Janet Reed 01264 325631 or janet.reed@jhanson.hants.sch.uk if you would like to visit us.
Uniform
We respectfully reminded parents/carers about he Governors’ requirement for students to meet the fairly generous uniform requirement. We have had a very small minority of students returning from the break who have been unable to meet the standard, Heads of Year will be in contact with their parents/carers in order to resolve these difficulties as quickly as possible.
Late Detention
We have amended our response to students who arrive late to school at the start of the day. Any student who arrives late on 3 or more occasions during a term, will be directed to attend a school detention which take place each Friday afternoon from 1500 – 1600 hours. Students failing to attend the sanction are likely to be subject to a fixed-term exclusion.
Parent Portal
Over the last few months parents/carers have been signing up for access to our Parent Portal. The Portal will allow you access to school reports, timetables, school letters and publications. In time we will also be able to provide attendance information and communicate to parents using email and text messaging. As more parents join the portal, the school will be able to make savings on paper and postal costs by providing access to important information online. Please take this opportunity to sign up for portal access now.
The Parent Portal will accept registration from parents. Details of how to register are available on the Parent Portal link. For those who have already registered for access you can visit the Portal directly here.
Mathematics
Details of after school support for students can be found on the Notices Page
Weyhill Road Closure
We understand that Weyhill Road will be closed for a long time over the Winter period. If your son/daughter’s journey to school is lengthened we trust that you have altered family arrangements so that students are not late in arriving, thus disadvantaging themselves and inconveniencing their teachers and members of their class.
KS4 Course choices booklet for Year 9 students is available from the website here.
Activities
Each week students are encouraged to join in with a range of activities beyond the curriculum. The details of the activities and events on offer will be shown here each week.
Parking – Please do not use the bays marked for use by Blue Badge holders when collecting students during the day or from after school activities.
Sam Learning - Go!
SAM Learning is an online system available for students in this school. The service, which is accessible to all staff and students, covers a wide range of subjects across the curriculum and can be used both in school and at home. For details click here
Bicycles
Students who wish to cycle to school must apply for a cycle permit through Student Services. The permit requires the commitment from students to wear a helmet on their head in transit, and for the bicycles to be roadworthy. This means that they must be fitted with a functioning front and rear brake. Whilst we will do all that we can to ensure the security of bicycles stored on the premises, we do not take any responsibility for theft or damage. Given this we recommend that students wishing to cycle to school have their bicycles insured.
Work Placements
We are receiving a high volume of prospective educationalists wishing to undertake work experience or an observation placement at John Hanson. Please click on this link if you would like more information about our procedures before contacting us.
